  • Swing Variety
    20's-30's swing class
20's Charleston Learn 'grandmother of all swing' 20's Charleston basics, musicality, moves and turns plus transitions into 30's dances and moves. Basic moves introduced in beginner class: Basic, Swing Out, Balboa Swing, Collegiate Shag, Rockabilly 4 count Jive, and Saint Louis Shag; Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: Basics, swing out, and 6 count vs. 8 count.
  • 30's Balboa class goes over both timings to help introduce you into this marvelous lead/follow partnership dance technique with musicality and partner weight shifts. Similar to blues connections and partnerships and Argentine Tango musicality and playfullness; Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: Pure Balboa in closed position 2 basics timings, scoots, crab walks, Lollies, cross overs and intro to Send Out (similar to Swing Out of Lindy Hop).
  • 30's Collegiate Shag class goes over transitions from East Coast 6 count 'Jitterbug' moves with emphasis on tight footwork and how to save your energy, knees and back on the dance floor; Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: 6 count basic, all turns, and 8 count basic Swing Out.
  • 30's Saint Louis Shag class goes over Charleston commonalities connection and balance; Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: basics from open and closed and transitions into Charleston moves.
  • 30's-40s Charleston class goes over musicality, connection and balance. Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: Side by Side Charleston, Face to Face, Tandem, Arials, Jumps and Lifts, Airplane, Hand to Hand, and Kick through's.
  • 30's-40's Lindy Hop
Don't believe the Ballroom Hype; You don't need to learn 6 count swing; Students who learn 8 count Lindy Hop right away have a better time hearing the music and developing musicality quicker! Lindy Hop originated in African American communities and was notorized at Savoy Ballroom in 1930s and influanced by performance style of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers and continued througout the world continuing to develope with different styles into the 40s and today. We do San Francisco Style which is a combination of Savoy and Smooth styles(Hollywood style Lindy which inspired West Coast Swing) with good connection and less emphasis on performance styles of the past while keeping historically accurate with moves taught. It's an energetic dance filled with fun, rhythmic footwork, flashy styling and good technique; However, we emphasise dancing with a partner and not showing off to the point of ignoring and not connecting with a partner. In this class we cover fundamental Lindy Hop steps; Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: Swing Out, Circle, Charleston, footwork technique and lead-follow technique.
  • Intermediate Lindy Hop
Fun moves, footwork, variations and styling! Learn new steps, footwork technique, and solid lead-follow technique and transitions. This is a progressive series class, which means we review and build on previous weeks' material. No partner needed. 1-2 months of beginning Lindy Hop OR regular social dancing required. Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class continue for 6-8 months: Footwork technique and lead-follow technique; Lindy Circle (it's different than a circle; it's face to face); Charleston moves galore(see Charleston class descriptons); Saint Louis Shag moves; Barrel rolls; Texas Tommy (Apache); Arials; Lifts; slides; Jumps; Tap moves; Solo Jazz Steps; Sugar push (push break); Rueda moves; Jig Walks, Big Kicks, Lollies, Cross overs, Crab walks, and 6 count moves plus how to integratet hem from 8 count's (Don't worry we won't waiste your time and try to overcharge you for months of 6 count swing with ridiculous moves that no Lindy Hopper actually uses like the pretzel or hustle arm moves) plus so many there are to many fun new developing moves to mention here...
  • 50's Jive class goes over musicality, connection and transitions from 4 count into 8 with styling not just for follow but for lead too with emphasis on foot work options; Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: Jive basic, turns, styling, fancy footwork, Swing Out.
  • Performance class:
'Swing thru time' mixed performance troupe plus Queer Jitterbugs troupe. Routines: California Routine, Swing throught Time, Lindy in the Park routine, One Stop, Two Stop, Balboa routine, Swing Rueda (Lindy routine), Jitterbug Rueda, Shim Sham Shimmy, Dean's Shim Sham, Trankey Do, Big Apple, and several other Lindy Hop routines from 7 years of performing! Level to join class can be intermeidate with 4 months series class background or social dancing equivalent. Beginner troupe also available for total beginners.
  • Other stuff we have been teaching for years...
Ballroom group classes by preregistration request at our dance studio on Thursday's only at 151 Potrero Ave. at 15th Street.
  • Tango Variety class goes over stance, connections and difference in styles of North American vs. South American Argentine Tango; Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: basics, promanade and turns.
  • Salsa class goes over styling and social moves plus different timings with 2 different teachers; One with emphasis on 3; the other with emphasis on moving across floor on 4 and 8; Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: Basic, turns, Open and closed movements, and traveling movement on floor.
  • Rhumba Basic class introduces students to box and Latin hip movement and connection; Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: Basic box, Basic in place, Open and closed movements, turns and movement on floor.
  • Cha Cha Basic class introduces footwork and connection; Moves introduced in beginner 4 week series class: Basic, Open and closed movements, turns and movement on floor.
  • Foxtrot Basic class introduces footwork, musicality, Ballroom stance, connection and comparisons to country 2 step; Moves introduced in beginner class: Box, Moving basic, Promanade, turns and rock turn.
  • Waltz Basic class introduces footwork, musicality, Ballroom stance and connection; Moves introduced in beginner class: Box, Moving basic, Promanade, turns and rock turn.
  • Country 2 Step class introduces footwork, musicality, stance and connection; Moves introduced in beginner class: Moving basic, Promanade, turns and rock turn.
  • West Coast Swing class introduces styling, footwork, musicality, stance and connection; Moves introduced in beginner class: Push Break (sugar push), Side passes, Turns, slides, and taps.
  • East Coast Swing "Don't call it Jitterbug" 6 count swing class introduces coloquial street style; We don't call it Jitterbug out of respect for the old timers who danced in the Swing Era who took offense to that derogitory word; It was used to describe the dancer and not the dance until Arther Murray and other ballrooms continue to misuse it for marketing... Moves introduced in beginner class: Basic, moving basic, turns, single timing, double and triple timing and steps, Jig walks (kicks), and Charleston.
